Summer Sizzle Brings Blackouts, Sags and Spikes to Your Computer Systems

Why tempt fate ?

Summer weather can not only zap your newer computer systems but also your vintage computer as well as irrereplaceable vintage computer software as well as the time and energy spent in setup, hardware put backment and running computer systems.

Why does the summer season bring so much trouble  brownouts, sags and electric currents spikes?

Summer heat does wonders. Not only does it concession you to acquire a lovely tan but if causes utility grids to be strained on the far side their capacity due to the increased use of air conditioners. In such cases power utilities adjust their voltage railroad siding, sometimes causing erratic power sags and spikes, which are extremely dangerous for computer hardware as well as software. And you can expect utilities to be more conservative to avoid another outage like that which happened in the hot August summer of 2003.

On Aug 14, 2003 it was estimated that due to a summer electric heat surge 50 million dwell and businesses were plunged into the dark and heat.

The summary cost was an estimated $ 6 billion.

Similarly it is estimated that in the United States that smaller outages cost the U.S. economy in lost productivity the not unsubstantial cost of $ 50 billion.

So says the IEEE  the Institute of Electronics and Electronics Engineers. The worlds leading professional organisation for the advancement of applied science.

Secondly the alone(p) geography of the U.S. produces favorable conditions for tornadoes, resulting in about 1000 tornadoes every year according to the weather channel.

Tornadoes are extremely unpredictable with wind speeds reaching 300 mph, a tornado is the most destructive storm of all, ripping up utility lines and leading to lengthy, unexpected blackouts.

As well last years hurricane season was a record breaker with more than an alphabet’s worth of named storms, causing the National Hurricane focus to resort to the Greek Alphabet ever. It was also the first season since 1851 to have three categories of five storms. (Katrina, Rita, Wilma).

Lightning is always the most obvious concern of most computer enthusiasts. Each lightening flash typically contains about 1 billion volts and between 10 and 20 thousand amps of current. Currents can transfer done? wiring or plumbing and destroy everything in its path, of course including your irreplaceable Computer and Software Collection.

This cost is entirely possible. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAAA) reports an average of 20 million cloud to ground flashes have been detected every year since 1989.

How can you protect yourself?

First of all purchase proper surge testimonial and have it in place.

There are various levels of surge protection devices.

1) Power bars with a simple switch. These are the choice of most as they are readily available and bum. However the switch is just that a switch not a surge protector. The appearance of an electronic device fools many into believing that they “are protected”. Sadly they are not.

2) Inexpensive Surge Protection devices. This is a better step than the first. However the protection is limited by the fact that the surge protection is afforded by simple Silica sand. With time and moisture (usually no more than a year) the surge protection is highly diminished.

If you use these inexpensive Silica sand based surge protectors replace them on a yearly groundwork. As well note the capacity of the surge protector. It does no good to have a very inadequate surge protector.

Read the labels and descriptions on the packages.

You can not protect a large computer system with a surge protector designed for one simple computer or laptop.

3) More expensive electronic surge protection units. A wise choice. However as noted above ensure that your protection is well rated above PEAK power use not a lower power use

4) finis you may well consider a more expensive though very safe solution an continuous Power Supply.

An uninterruptible power supply, or UPS, (sometimes called an ‘uninterruptible power source ‘) is a device which maintains a continuous supply of electric power to connected equipment by supplying power from a battery when utility power is not available. A UPS is inserted between the source of power (typically commercial message utility power) and the load which is to be protected. When a power loser or abnormality occurs, the UPS will effectively switch from utility power to battery power .While they are not limited to any specific type of equipment, they are typically used to protect computers.

Remember why tempt fate when it comes to your prized vintage computer system .

Fire departments not only fight fires they are most effective in preventing fires.

Remember at the very worst you can always unplug your computer and devicesto be safe . And as well remember to unplug the headphone or broadband cable connection as well.

What Is Ballet Dancing?

Every little girl dreams of growing up someday to become a prima ballerina. On the other hand, many grownups who have never seen a ballet insist that they cannot sit through one because it is boring. The problem, perhaps, is that they are not clear on what exactly ballet dancing is. In reality, ballet dancing is a classical art form that has been loved by generations of people across various cultures.

Ballet dancing is a form of performance dance with very strict standards concerning the movement of the feet and the lines of the body. It originated in the 15th century renaissance courts of Italy and was developed further into a form of concert dance in England, France and Russia. The word ballet comes from the Latin ballare, which means “to dance.”

Attending a classical ballet is not unlike attending any other theatrical performance. The difference is that instead of the performers telling the story verbally, they tell it through their bodies and facial expressions. The dancers will typically be accompanied by a full orchestra, and the music also helps audience members to interpret the story.

Today, although classical ballet is still studied and performed in theatres all over the world, it has evolved into a modern form of dance referred to as contemporary ballet. It borrows a great deal of technique and footwork from classical ballet, but it also incorporates elements of modern dance. Since it does not adhere to the strict standards for body lines that were set by classical ballet, it allows the dancers a broader range of movement.

Ballet dancing seems intimidating to many audience members because they are not familiar with it. However, once most people finally attend a ballet, they are usually surprised at home much they actually enjoy it. Listening to beautiful music and watching graceful bodies is a great way to enjoy the arts and experience something new.

If you are a dance and music lover, invest in a Furman Power Condtioner and listen to the difference in the sound.  You won’t believe it!

Computer Jargon Explained: CPU or Processor

In this lesson, I want to talk about a little bit about computer jargon “CPU,” which is short for “central processing unit.” It’s also sometimes just referred to as simply “the processor.”

Lots of people don’t really get this term, so I’m going to use some very simple, plain-English methods of clarifying it that should make plenty of sense, probably more than what you may have heard before today.

I’m also going to talk a little bit about why it is your PC seems to have slowed down from it was in the past. After a while, all computers, no matter how good, become incapable of doing much. I’ll explain why this is.

I’ll share with you a better understanding of a computer’s processor. Once you understand this, you can better choose the right computer for you. And that all depends how you use it.

You can think about the CPU as a brain because it is the closest equivalent to a brain in a computer. Metaphorically speaking, this is the part of the computer that does the actual thinking.

Another way of thinking about it is to think of it like muscles. You can think of a low end computer as being like the skinny weakling. A high-end computer’s processor is sort of like a Charles Atlas or Arnold Schwarzenegger, someone who is very strong, maybe takes steroids and is very big and muscular.

So go ahead and think about them both: the Arnold Schwarzenegger type. Even the weaking can carry something light like a book, so there’s no advantage to being a bodybuilder. Either one of them can easily carry a book across a room.

But, what if the person is instead trying to carry a big, 100-pound bag of concrete, theweak guy might not be able to cross the room or might not even have a hope of picking it up.

If they can make it across the room, they’re probably going to stagger slowly and barely make it since they’re trying to do something that’s just too heavy and too big for them to mange.

The bodybuilder, on the other hand, will surely notice that the weight is much heavier than a book, but they’ll be able to carry it across the room much more easily than the 98-pound weakling.

That’s one way to relate to it. A professional level computer is like the weightlifter. The average computer is a sort of “average Joe” with average strength. They could easily carry a book across a room, but couldn’t very easily, if at all, carry that huge bag of cement.

OK, so you may be wondering what the cement or the book are in practical terms? What does the book represent? Let me share with you a few examples. Most people are doing a few things with their computer. They’re writing, using a word processor like Word, or reading their emails.

They’re looking at web pages, listening to some music, watching some little video like a DVD or looking at some photographs. Those are average things. Those are equivalent to carrying a book or something light across a room. Today’s computer can handle tasks like these with ease.

Things like or making changes to a large, super-high-quality photograph from an expensive pro camera, is a bigger, heavier task for the computer to work with.

Playing the latest and greatest computer games is another great example. Those activities are more like carrying that big bag of cement, so they do need a high-end computer.

The final thing I want to speak about is why it is, over time, what used to be a high-end~powerful computer goes from being Charles Atlas to being a 98-pound weakling.

Most programs get more complicated with each version as they add new features. Understand that just because they’re more complex doesn’t always mean more complex to use.

They become heavier with time, so to speak. The typical “weight” has grown over time and so becomes harder for the computer to deal with.

I hope that makes sense, even if you’ve never had much luck learning basic computer skills so far. It actually can be simple with the best computer training.
